BECOME INVOLVED IN YOUR CENTRE BECOME A QLAA OFFICIAL
Offocials are an essential part of our centre.
They are responsible for running all the track and field events at each competition meet.
Queensland Little Athletics offers an Officials scheme that is within the reach of ALL parents
in the centre. There are 4 levels of gradings, "A, B, C, and D".... with A grade being the
highest qualification.
Little Athletics Centre Officials use rules based on the
International Amateur Athletic Federation's
handbook which are modified to suit Little Athletics requirements, particularly with regard to
equipment specifications.
The Centre Official's Officer is issued with a manual which includes all QLAA rules and examination papers for
those wishing to become an Athletics Official. Full details of the process are available
at QLAA's website.
Presently, most of our Centre Coaches are also Officials and therefore very little
coaching is achieved on competition days. Ideally, we would like to see more parents
becoming Officials to release the Coaches from the task, thereby making competition days
more enjoyable and beneficial for the Athletes.
HOW TO BECOME A QUALIFIED QLAA OFFICIAL....
"D" GRADE
Designed as recognition for those parents helping at Centre Competitions.
Qualification Requirements:
- Theory Exam - Open book, multiple choice of approx. 20 questions. Exam papers are available from the Centre Officials Officer.
- Practical Assessment - Assessment cards are issued, and must be signed by the Centre Officials Officer. The applicant must complete 2 full days at an event, covering the full range of rule requirements.
"C" GRADE
Designed as recognition for those who have held "D" Grade qualifications for 12 months.
Details and qualification requirements are available from the Centre Officials Officer.
To encourage more Parents to become Officials, we have introduced a system where you can become an Official AND remain with
your child's age group. It does require you to initially stay at one event for two competition
days to meet QLAA requirements, however after that you can remain with your child.
Becoming a D Grade Official is very easy!! Generally there are only a dozen or so rules to learn for each
selected event followed by some practical sessions. It's all completed at
Centre level.
If you are interested in becoming an Official, ask the
Officials Officer
on any competition day or send an email.
