Trophies and Medals
The emphasis of Little Athletics is on personal improvement and the eligibility for awards at the end of the season is as follows:
Eligibility:
To be eligible for any of the centre’s awards an athlete must compete in 60% of the events offered by the centre - eg. in a 22 week season, an athlete may be able to compete in approximately 110 events and so would be required to compete in 66 events to be eligible for any award. This is regardless of when the athlete signs on. Further to this the eligibility for the Awards at the end of season is as follows:
Points System
| Awarded for: | Point(s): | Contributes to: |
| Particiation | 0.2 points per event | Attendance Medal |
| Personal Best | 2 points improving a PB in normal Centre competition. | Age group Most Improved and Overall most improved |
| Equaling a Personal Best | 1 point equaling a PB in normal Centre competition. | Age group Most Improved and Overall most improved |
| Regional Relay Championships | 1 point for competition | |
| Regional Championships | 1 point for competition |
Athletes who are absent from competition due to selection in a school or club representative team at district level or above, in any sport, are eligible to receive maximum participation points available for that competition. Please provide verification to the Chief Recorder if this occurs.
Note: Improvement points can not be gained from competitions not conducted by the Centre (i.e. Regional or Association days, including Pentathlons). They will be gained however from competitions that replace our normal weekly competition, e.g. our Centre visit to Aspley Little Athletics Centre.
First, Second and Third Most Improved/Attendance Awards (based on the above system)
Awarded to athletes (boys and girls) in each age group. Participation Awards will be awarded to athletes who did not receive an Improvement/Participation Award, but who have competed in 60% of the events offered this season. No athlete will receive both.
Overall Most Improved
Awarded to the boy and the girl who receive the highest number of points based on improvement alone. (Participation points are not included.)
Age Champion Award
An athlete in each age group, boys and girls, will receive an Age Champion Trophy based on their best performance in each event during the season. This is calculated by a points system similar to a pentathlon. (This is not participation and improvement. Athletes must meet participation requirement to qualify).
Note – Participation / improvement points are not given until an athlete is fully registered ie. Trialists do not receive improvement or participation points and their times and distances are not officially recorded.
Spitfire Flying High Award
For season 2010/11 we are proud to introduce a new perpetual award. The Pine Rivers RAAF Association has generously offered to sponsor the "Spitfire Flying High" award. This will be awarded to the Strathpine Athlete who achieves the highest score at our annual pentathlon event. At this event the athletes compete in 5 events comprising usually of a sprint, distance race, hurdle race, jump and throw event e.g. 100m, 800m, hurdles, long jump, discus. Their performance in each event is awarded "points" weighted against the current Strathpine Centre Best performance for that event and that age group.
Most years our Pentathlon is an open invitation event to all other centres in the South East. However this year it will be an in-house event as we are hosting 2 major regional championships at our centre and thought that would keep us busy enough. In whichever scenario the award will always be awarded to the Athlete with the most points from the Strathpine Centre. We believe that this criteria recognises an athlete who demonstrates ability in five different disciplines of Little Athletics and at the same time provides
an equal opportunity for all athletes to receive the award.
McDonalds Achievment Awards
One of the aims of Little Athletics is of course to improve the athletic performance of its members. To provide incentive for children to improve, we have a system of performance level indicators and achievement awards which is sponsored by McDonalds. Each child is given a ticket showing their performance in each event for each competition day. These should be pasted in their result book provided at the start of the season. They also receive an Achievement Card which shows the performance required to achieve Green, Red or Blue level in any event. To attain a Green, Red or Blue level certificate an athlete must reach the relevant level in all events (in their age group) in three of the event groups - Sprints, Hurdles, Throws, Jumps, Walks and Distance. Recorders will issue certificates 2 or 3 times throughout the season with each athlete eligible for a maximum of three certificates in the season - 1 of each colour
